A HOMECOMING CELEBRATION...is what the Arcanum Trojans enjoyed with an impressive 14-2 victory over Mississinawa Valley.
OCTOBER 9, 2009 - ARCANUM
Mississinawa Valley went into Friday's CCC battle with Arcanum at 4-2 on the season and looking to keep its playoff hopes alive. The Blackhawks were also looking to get back to their winning was after a 36-0 defeat at the hands of Ansonia a week earlier.
Arcanum entered the game winners of two of the past tree games after a sluggish start to the season in which the Trojans lost the first three games. At 2-4, the Trojans were looking to maintain the momentum gained last week in a 47-14 victory over Bradford and celebrate homecoming with a victory.
Something had to give and it wasn't the Trojan defense as Arcanum held the Blackhawk offense scoreless the entire evening. The lone score by Mississinawa came on a safety in the second quarter as the Trojans put a damper on the 'Hawk's playoff hopes with a 14-2 verdict.
In sloppy field conditions due to the constant rain that poured during the day and throughout the contest, Arcanum got on the scoreboard first as Brad Rothwell slogged his way in from the four.
The point-after attempt was off the mark, leaving the Trojans with a 6-0 lead.
Mississinawa Valley's defense, which played well despite being overshadowed by the Trojan "D", turned the tables on Arcanum with a safety to cut the margin to 6-2 at the half.
But Arcanum struck gold midway through the third quarter as Rothwell plowed in from the five and then ran for the two-point conversion to increased the margin to 14-2.
Which was enough for the Trojan defense as it held true throughout the remainder of the contest to preserve the win.
Arcanum improves to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in Cross County Conference play, while Mississinawa Valley drops to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the CCC.
