THE BIGGING OF A NEW STREAK?...is the question on the minds of Blazer fans as National Trail ends a 32-game losing skid with a victory over Bradford, 20-18.
National Trail arrived in Bradford Friday night with a 32 game losing streak on it’s back, but had new hope heading into the conference opener with new coach John Graher - who has a history of turning programs around.
The host Railroaders were coming off an impressive 50-point victory in their season opener, leading to confidence on their home field.
In the end, however, it was the visiting Blazers who came out victorious thanks to three rushing touchdowns by Jon Day, the final score coming with 1:12 left in the third quarter to secure.
The Blazers ran a balanced offensive attack of running and passing to secure the win. National Trail accumulated 143 yards of rushing and 129 yards through the air to keep the pressure on the Railroader defense. Jon Day of National Trail scored all three of Trails touchdowns on the ground in short yardage situations.
The Railroaders failed to convert on all three of it’s extra point attempts which made a difference in the game.
Bradford also lost two fumbles in the game, but more important when the Railroaders had Trail with third and long situations they jumped off side 4 different times giving Trail new life which led to 3 touchdowns on those drives.
The Railroaders rushed for 178 total yards and 105 yards through the air.
The victory evens National Trail's record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCC, while Bradford drops to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
